The Érudit Town Hall / Rencontrez Érudit event, held in February 2025, provided a special opportunity for presentations and discussions about our recent activities and upcoming projects.
With more than 150 participants, it was a good turnout!
Teams from numerous journals, as well as librarians and Erudit partners from across Canada, attended presentations from members of our team. We designed this event as an interactive complement to the publication of our 2023-2024 annual report, and to facilitate broad participation it was held online in two sessions: one in French (February 18, 2025) and the other in English (February 18, 2025).
The hour-and-a-half-long event is available in its entirety for viewing in French and in English.
Major projects and research for a more open knowledge ecosystem
The event opened with a brief welcome from Frédéric Bouchard, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Érudit, and Tanja Niemann, Executive Director. Elise Bergeron, Operations Director, then presented the major projects undertaken over the past year, placing them in the broader context of the efforts made to support the publication and dissemination of non-commercial scholarly journals in the digital landscape.
Vincent Larivière, professor at the École de bibliothéconomie et des sciences de l’information of the Université de Montréal and Scientific Director of Érudit, continued by highlighting two ongoing research projects:
- discoverability challenges for French-language publications (presentation in French)
- the creation of a portrait of Canadian scholarly journals (presentation in English)
Diamond open access and support for non-commercial journals
Finally, Jessica Dallaire-Clark, Senior Coordinator of Open Access Development, presented the principles of the Partnership for Open Access (POA), one of the keystones of the work to support journals in an open access context. The POA, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2024, provides sustainable funding for journals through the collaboration of over 90 library partners.
An interactive conclusion and access to the presentations
Each session ended with a discussion period, where participants were able to ask questions, either verbally or in writing.
We would like to extend our warmest thanks to everyone who took part in this event and we’ll always be available to continue these discussions throughout the year!
