The POA: Supporting Equitable Open Access

poa

The Partnership for Open Access (POA) enables open access publishing in Canada.

The POA provides financial support to non-commercial scholarly journals through the ongoing commitment of library partners and is based on a close collaboration between all stakeholders of the research ecosystem.

Part of the diamond open access movement, the POA is building a collective, equitable, and robust path for the dissemination of knowledge.

The POA in Numbers

2,000+ articles

Each year, the POA enables the publication of
more than 2,000 scholarly articles in immediate open access.

250+ journals

More than 250 scholarly journals are supported financially through the POA, with over 160 journals publishing in immediate open access, and with 40 flips made possible with help from the POA.

90+ libraries

The POA is supported by more than 90 libraries around the world.

0 APCs

The POA is based on an open access model that does not charge fees to either readers or authors. This model is called diamond open access.

Partner Libraries

The POA is supported by a large number of libraries around the world.
These collaborations are put in place through consortial agreements.

An Ambitious Yet Measured Approach
to Open Access

Diverse and Independent Journals

The POA supports Canadian non-commercial journals that are rooted in their research communities and which publish in French or English. See the list of journals here.

An International Movement

The POA is part of a global network of initiatives that promote diamond open access. These initiatives are based in Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia.

An Equitable Model

With diamond open access, there are no fees for either readers or authors. This model serves as a responsible investment of public funds to support research as a common good.

Sustainable Open Access

The POA is designed to support journals for the long term, to sustain their editorial activities in open access.
