Updated Criteria for the Next Call for Applications

In order to better reflect developments in the scholarly publishing environment, we have updated several elements of our eligibility criteria for the call for applications for scholarly journals, remaining true to our mission and values.

An upcoming call for applications

A new call for applications will soon be open for scholarly journals wishing to be disseminated on the erudit.org platform. It will be open to journals wishing to begin their first year of distribution in 2027.

As part of this process, journals must submit an application that undergoes a structured review based on various criteria. This process ensures that the journals accepted are in line with best practices encouraged in the Canadian scholarly publishing environment and the mission of our platform. These criteria are aligned with both the general requirements of the main Canadian funding agencies and Érudit’s vision to support diamond open access, promote related best practices, and support Quebec and Canadian scholarly journals.

An updated eligibility framework

In this context, and in the interest of transparency, Érudit has recently clarified certain elements of its eligibility criteria to better reflect changes in the scholarly publishing environment and the diverse editorial realities of the journals disseminated on the platform.

This is not a complete restructuring of the selection process, but rather a clarification of the existing framework, aimed at making the criteria already in place more explicit, better defining certain aspects and formalizing new ones. The eligibility criteria are used primarily to determine whether a journal is eligible for further evaluation of its application. The first journals affected will be those that submit an application in 2026 for dissemination starting in January 2027.

Specifically, the main adjustments take into account practices that are increasingly present in the scholarly publishing environment, particularly with regard to publication fees, copyright, and usage policies. In addition, this update now allows for a wider range of journals to be considered, while remaining consistent with Érudit’s mission and values. The updated eligibility criteria will be available on the call for applications page as soon as it is launched on February 3 2026.
