Érudit is announcing a new collaboration with FAO AGRIS, the International System for Agricultural Science and Technology of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Through this agreement, six journals disseminated on Érudit are now discoverable through this international bibliographic database, giving their content greater visibility within the global scholarly community.
FAO AGRIS: Exploring Research in Agricultural Science
FAO AGRIS is the International System for Agricultural Science and Technology of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). It is a free bibliographical database that collects scientific and technical resources in the fields of agriculture, food, and nutrition.
The platform is supported by a network of data providers, notably universities, governments and research centres, who share their publications’ metadata. In this way, it makes resources from numerous institutions and scholarly communities around the world discoverable.
Its linguistic diversity also contributes to its international reach. The database indexes content in 121 languages, promoting the dissemination of scholarly knowledge from several linguistic communities.
Metadata on Érudit in Service of Discoverability
As part of this collaboration, Érudit is providing FAO AGRIS with the metadata from participating journals through its OAI-PMH access points.
Concretely, Érudit’s access point allows FAO AGRIS to retrieve bibliographic information for articles from participating journals and integrate it into its discovery portal. The metadata makes it possible to index the publications, and the links redirect toward the platform that hosts the full text. For journals hosted on Érudit, the links lead to the articles available on our platform.
Six Érudit Journals Now Accessible through FAO AGRIS
Six journals disseminated on Érudit are participating in this collaboration by providing their metadata to FAO AGRIS. Their participation ensures that their publications are indexed on this specialized portal and increases their visibility among researchers in their respective fields.
Atlantic Geoscience: a journal dedicated to all aspects of the geoscience of Atlantic Canada and related areas.
Éducation relative à l’environnement: a journal dedicated to formal and informal environmental education, and related fields.
Le Naturaliste canadien: official publication of the Société Provancher, dedicated to natural and environmental sciences.
Phytoprotection: a research journal edited by the Québec Society for the Protection of Plants (QSPP), dealing with all theoretical and practical aspects of plant protection in the contexts of agriculture and forestry, focusing on sustainability.
Revue des Sciences de l’Eau / Journal of Water Science: a journal dedicated to research and findings on water, particularly in hydrology, hydrogeology, water quality and treatment, and the functioning of aquatic ecosystems.
VertigO: an international journal covering several fields and dedicated to major contemporary environmental issues.
By facilitating the flow of metadata between different platforms, this collaboration creates a new avenue for discovering content from participating journals. It is part of Érudit’s efforts to promote the dissemination and discoverability of scholarly knowledge, both in Canada and internationally.
