Every year, a number of scholarly journals take a major step forward by adopting immediate open access, a distribution model that promotes the equitable sharing of knowledge. In 2025, six journals disseminated on erudit.org completed this major transition. It is now possible to read all of their content, including most recent issues, without restriction.
The flip to open access is a major undertaking for editorial teams and represents a significant turning point for a journal. The process requires a thorough rethink of funding, editorial policies and publishing practices. Despite these challenges, the benefits are clear: greater visibility, increased accessibility, compliance with funding agency requirements, simplified editorial processes and a wider impact on research, practice and society.
Open access dissemination contributes to a more open and equitable research environment. In particular, diamond open access, which imposes no article processing charges on authors, ensures that everyone can read and disseminate research without financial barriers. Journals that have opted for diamond open access are part of a worldwide movement supported by numerous scientific organizations and funding bodies, including the federal Tri-agency and the Fonds de recherche du Québec.
