Érudit recently joined Open Journals Collective (OJC), an international initiative aimed at supporting diamond open access scholarly journal publishing. Based on a collective funding model, OJC contributes to the development of a more sustainable ecosystem for journals, a priority which Érudit shares.
Érudit is pleased to announce its involvement in Open Journals Collective (OJC), a new international initiative. OJC aims to raise funds from libraries, funding agencies, and consortium members to support and develop diamond open access journal publishing through dedicated funding. Launched on January 20, 2026, the OJC was created to establish a collective funding model designed to directly support journals, at no cost to authors or readers.
A Collective Model in Support of Journals
Within this collaborative framework, the selection of journals included in Open Journals Collective’s directory was carried out by OJC, according to its own criteria. This includes indexing in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), adhering to a regular publication schedule, allowing authors to retain copyright, and using of a Creative Commons license (or equivalent) at the time of selection.
Although the initiative is still in its first year, Open Journals Collective already represents a promising opportunity for journals, offering them increased visibility and access to additional support. This launch year also aims to mobilize libraries around OJC’s vision. It also aims to demonstrate that a collective funding model can both provide significant financial support to diamond open access journals and generate positive benefits for the entire research ecosystem.
By joining this initiative, Érudit is part of an international network that shares a common vision: to support open, inclusive, and sustainable knowledge dissemination for the benefit of research communities and society as a whole.
